Abstract:
"Matalib Iqbal" by Maqbool Anwar Dawoodi serves as a glossary of words used in Kalam-e-Iqbal in Urdu. In his analytical study, Dawoodi provides a research-based and critical review of word identification, semantic explanations, pronunciation, grammatical classification, and linguistic techniques. This study adopts a qualitative research methodology while also incorporating historical and diachronic approaches. Compiling a linguistic reference for a poet of Iqbal’s stature is an important scholarly contribution. Dawoodi’s work offers significant assistance to readers by elucidating the meanings and interpretations of words used in Kalam-e-Iqbal. However, Matalib Iqbal does not fully conform to the scientific principles of lexicography. Lexicographical work demands more than merely defining words; it often requires illustrative examples for better comprehension. Therefore, further incorporation of contextual explanations of words and phrases are recommended to enhance its utility as a comprehensive glossary.
